If you’re looking for a way to keep the kids occupied for a couple of hours over the summer holidays, we’ve got you covered as Migration arrives on platform this month. The perfect movie for kids, this animation follows a family of mallards who try and convince their dad to go on the trip of a lifetime – attempting to migrate from New England via New York City before ending in Jamaica. Naturally, things don’t go to plan with the family encountering obstacles along the way. Available 23 August on Sky Cinema and NOWMigration (2024)
Because you can’t beat an animation, this month there’s another big hitter making its way to Sky Cinema and NOW. The third instalment in the Trolls movie franchise, Trolls: Band Together follows Branch and Poppy – voiced by Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick – who, after spending two movies flirting, are now officially a couple. As they spend more time together, Poppy discovers Branch’s secret past…he, together with his four brothers, was a member of hit boyband BroZone. The band disbanded when Branch was young and he hasn’t seen his brothers since then. But when Branch’s brother is kidnapped for his musical talents, Branch and Poppy set out on a journey to rescue him and reunite the brothers. Even if you’ve never watched the movie, chances are you’ll have seen the iconic pottery scene between Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze’s characters. Ghost is a seminal movie which emerged as the highest-grossing movie of 1990 and earnt itself five Academy Award nominations. The movie follows Sam (played by Swayze), a murdered banker, whose ghost – with the help of a psychic - sets out to save his girlfriend Molly (played by Moore) from the person who killed him. Over thirty years on it’s still considered a classic, so, if you’ve never seen it before now’s your chance! Available August on Sky Cinema and NOWGhost (1990)
This hit comedy from the 00s is Will Ferrell doing what he does best. Produced by Judd Apatow, the movie follows two grown men, Brennan and Dale, who are forced to live together after their single parents – who they both still live with – marry each other. But the stepbrothers’ rivalry forces the new family apart, with Brennan and Dale forced to work together to help reunite their parents. With two comedic geniuses at the helm, the movie will have you in stitches throughout! Available August on Sky Cinema and NOWStep Brothers (2008)
If a musical number is more your thing, then this is the one for you. Starring musical legend Cher and hit singer Christina Aguilera, this film tells the story of an aspiring singer, Ali, who heads to LA where she becomes a waitress at a struggling burlesque lounge. After a performance is sabotaged, Ali sings the song herself impressing the burlesque lounge owner Tess and leading to her becoming the main attraction of the venue. With a soundtrack sung by Aguilera herself, expect plenty of stand-out singing and dancing performances! Available August on Sky Cinema and NOWBurlesque (2010)
